From April 8, 2025: e³ skillware 4.0

In addition to the usual system optimizations and bug fixes, e³ skillware 4.0 brings these additional features for our customers:

Job Profiler: Requirement profiles at the click of a button
Artificial intelligence is on everyone's lips and is making its way into our world too. In the future, all customers with a Professional Account will have access to the Job Profiler — an assistant that can not only recommend skills for your assessment, but also suggest requirement profiles or corridors. All that is needed is, for example, a job posting or a job description. If this information is not currently available, the Job Profiler falls back on typical tasks based on the job title.

New assessment situations.skillware
In this assessment, candidates rate their behavior in visualized, typical professional situations (such as team meetings, interactions with team members).

The assessment consists of a total of 13 situations, in each of which between 5 and 7 behaviors are to be rated, and takes approximately 15 minutes in total. Which skills are captured by the situations.skillware is explained in the next point — because the skills of the situations.skillware are also available as modular skills, just like all other skills!

New skills
With situations.skillware, 6 new modular skills are available:
- Openness with the poles Openness and Skepticism
- Engagement with the poles Performance Orientation and Stress Management
- Motivation to Shape with the poles Drive for Change and Adaptability
- Interaction Style with the poles Social Independence and Social Conformity
- Resilience with the poles Emotional Resilience and Emotional Sensitivity
- Collaboration with the poles Socially Constructive Behavior and Self-Centered Behavior.

The entire e³ skillware team wishes all customers lots of fun with the new features!

Digitalization in Personnel Selection

The increasing digitalization of society is also making its mark on personnel selection. For many years now, it has been possible to conduct psychological test procedures online, enabling, for example, the efficient pre-screening of applicants. In the field of test diagnostics, the innovation of recent years lies primarily in a gamified design of test procedures (gamification). In addition, job interviews and assessment centers are increasingly being conducted entirely digitally. The most far-reaching form of digitalization is when selection decisions are made by artificial intelligence. This lecture examines the potential opportunities and risks of increasing digitalization in personnel selection and also explores the experience of applicants.

As always, the private lecture is free of charge for customers and interested parties.

Beyond the Climbing Garden — Designing Personnel Development Professionally

Personnel development, alongside personnel selection, is one of the most important tasks in human resources management. It is about identifying and addressing existing weaknesses in employees and unlocking their potential. A look at practice shows that many companies are still far from achieving professional personnel development. The reasons for this are varied. They lie in both the preparation of measures and the selection of methods, implementation, and follow-up. Drawing on relevant research, the lecture highlights classic weaknesses across all areas and provides practical tips for optimizing your own approach.

As always, the private lecture is free of charge for customers and interested parties.

e³ skillware 3.0!

e³ skillware has continuously evolved over the past years and, with its many features, is not only one of the most scientifically well-founded, but also one of the most innovative online assessments.

For this reason, not only large international companies such as BP and HDI work with e³ skillware, but also many medium-sized companies across all industries. One of the strengths of e³ skillware is its adaptability to company-specific questions and tasks, including the effective prediction of sales success or staff turnover.

To ensure this for the future, the central goal of skillware 3.0 was the complete redesign of all software processes running in the background. Nevertheless, we are simultaneously introducing a number of functional enhancements:

  • Improved user management, so that multiple users can work together on a project
  • Improvements to candidate invitations
  • Multiple invitations / invitations of candidate groups
  • Clearer structuring of the information under "My Account"
  • Addition of various setting options, such as automatic deletion of results after defined time periods.

Further optimisations, particularly in the area of individual customisations of e³ skillware, are to follow - stay tuned!

Professionally developing and conducting job interviews

Job interviews are, alongside the review of application documents, one of the most important selection procedures in Germany. For decades, research has shown us how job interviews should be structured in order to best predict the professional performance of future employees. Unfortunately, the practice of job interviewing deviates greatly from these recommendations. The aim of this talk is to close this gap. We will address the topic of requirements analysis, various question types that are suitable or unsuitable, as well as the evaluation of answers. Finally, we will look at the special characteristics of digital job interviews.

A Frank Word on the Big Five

We are increasingly being approached by our customers and prospective clients about the Big Five and asked what we think of this personality model.

The Big Five are the personality dimensions — emotional stability, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness — that have by now been well confirmed in many studies and across cultures (see e.g. Kanning, U., Standards der Personaldiagnostik, Hogrefe, 2019). For personal self-awareness regarding the "fundamental dimensions" of personality and for personality research, the Big Five are therefore an important and scientifically recognized personality model within the trait-based approach.

However, it is an entirely different question whether the five traits of the Big Five contribute to predicting professional success — and that is precisely the goal in HR practice. In personnel recruitment and development, the question is not which fundamental traits a person possesses, but whether they will be successful in a specific job — in other words: what validity the Big Five have with regard to predicting professional performance.

There is now also a large body of research on this topic that very clearly demonstrates that only conscientiousness consistently shows a (minimal) relationship with job performance. The reason for this is relatively simple: the five traits of the Big Five are so general (cross-situational and heterogeneous in content) that they do not capture the specific traits that determine professional success. For example, the trait Openness encompasses openness to fantasy, aesthetics, feelings, variety, intellectual open-mindedness, and openness of the normative and value system — all at the same time. Even just listing these contents makes it clear why a correlation with job performance is unlikely.

For this reason, e³ skillware currently measures job-related personality traits that are much more closely associated with professional success, such as assertiveness, team orientation, conflict management ability, etc.

We have thought carefully about whether we want to continue to refrain from using the Big Five for the reasons mentioned above. Ultimately, we decided to take a pragmatic approach and accommodate the requests from customers and prospective clients, even though scientifically there are only few arguments in favor of using the Big Five in professional aptitude diagnostics. For this reason, we will make a corresponding instrument available to our customers before the end of 2022. This does not, however, change our recommendation to generally give preference to requirement-based, job-specific traits.

Better Interview Guides

After a long period without updates — as we have been busy working behind the scenes on software optimizations to add further innovative features to e³ skillware throughout the year — here is a smaller interim update: All interview guides will now display (also retroactively) requirement values, where these have been defined!
